This combo allows easy conversions from “control” to “topo” surveys. The quick-release pin and matched drill holes are the key! 
Simply replace the point on your prism pole with the one supplied in this kit, then when you want to take topo shots, place the pole in the topo shoe and secure with the pin. Then when you want to change to taking control points, simply pull the pin out and your pole is back to a standard point.
